Picollator multimedia search engine
Picollator is designed to understand digital pictures as we do in actual life. Picollator scans the Internet collecting digital images and matches visual objects within the images using pattern recognition technology.
Picollator works without words—it’s not text based, it uses image based queries. Currently, it indexes faces. To find a face, you upload a sample photo and Picollator will pull up photos and pages containing faces similar to the one in your sample photo.
Picollator site provides two different search experiences:
- Image Search – here you search for similar images on the web.
- Web search – you can search for information by image based query.
Picollator is able to help you find photos of people and any multimedia information more easily than any existing text-based search system. You can simply upload a photo with people to launch the search process.
Now it makes no difference that you do not know who or what you are looking for, or you cannot find the words to create textual search query. Simply upload a photo of any face to launch the search process.
How it works?
At the moment, Recogmission indexing engine processes human faces. Picollator creates an index of all faces found in digital pictures across the Internet. It means that if you want to find photos with people you need simply to upload a sample picture. As a result, you get all photos and resources containing faces which look similar to the ones from your picture.
You can upload the image containing several people. In this case, Picollator Online finds all pictures where two or more people appear together or separately.
We are working to make it possible to find images with many other graphical objects rather than people faces. We did it for faces, and we will implement similar technology for other content. We did the most difficult part of the work, because two different faces look much closer than, for instance, two incompatible buildings.
