We still live in the world of crime. Crime can find a victim everywhere. Nobody knows who is a criminal and who is a victim. Then the work comes to police officers and security professionals. They perform a lot of operations in order to identify a criminal, find all information about such people, investigate his relationship with others and finally protect society against other attempts of crime and terror. In many cases, officers have some visual information about the suspected persons: live video, police archives, amateur photos from witnesses, E-fits, photos from the party, etc. In brief words, they have archives of digital images, where specialists must find relevancies between different unknown people. Most of this work now is still performed manually.

We offer the solution for all who fight against crime and terrorism looking into faces. We made Picollator. It is the software, which can index large archives of digital images and find all visual contexts about particular person without needs to know his name and formal features. Picollator does it as you do in the streets: look at the face, recall live scenes and recognize the person everywhere you see him.

Consider following case. There is the special archive of unclassified or partially classified video records from investigated places, photos of suspected persons, criminals and witnesses, and other visual content related to criminology institution. The goal is to find all materials about a person, which face is found at the incidental photo taken at the bank office. The bank has been affected by the criminal fraud. That person could be the wanted offender. There is no other information on that person except the amateur photo, and there is no evidence that the identification process can be limited inside the standard police database of criminals. The only way to find that person in all images containing his face in the arbitrary digital assets, is using Picollator. Picollator can index arbitrary multimedia archives, collect all information about faces found in images, classify faces according to similarity and make the library of person appearances against content sources. Then the investigator has to upload the sample face from that amateur video to the system, and Picollator shows all content with similar persons independently of its source. The rest is to find the information about places of recording and perform field operations.

Practically speaking, Picollator integrates different sources of visual information, finds faces on it, recognizes and classifies them so that it is easy to find any person instantly, just as one click action.
